Off road lesson at Turweston Aerodrome
Losing my sight in my teens meant that I never had the chance to drive. I’ve always wanted to and wondered if I’d ever get the chance. So, for my 60th birthday present, my kind and thoughtful wife bought me a driving lesson from Driving Ambition.

I have always been an observant passenger but could I be the one at the controls? All those familiar terms were making me edgy – ‘releasing the clutch’, ‘biting point’, ‘changing up through the gears’ - not to mention, ‘fish-tailing, ‘kangarooing’ and ‘stalling’. Could I even manage to keep the vehicle on the straight and narrow? Would my reactions be so slow I’d have the car off at the first corner? Would I get into a fluster and fall to pieces? Surely what I would need was the most easy-going, calm and encouraging of all instructors. Fortunately, Mark Prewett turned out to have exactly those qualities – with an extra turbo-boost of patience ready just in case.

We had a blast! I quickly overcame my nerves and, in minutes, started to enjoy the experience. I was able to control the car with a degree of confidence – gears, brakes (pedal and hand), acceleration, steering. Mark’s easy-going instructions and smiling (possibly through gritted teeth) my 90-minute lesson passed in a trice.

I can absolutely recommend Driving Ambition. My wife tells me that all the arrangements building up to my adventure were handled efficiently and courteously. The lesson itself was not only enjoyable I found it to be a really informative and revelationary experience – about driving and indeed myself. Mark is a true professional and I am very grateful to have had the benefit of his thirty-plus years of driving instruction on my side.

“Got to the Aerodrome and immediately found Mark who was very proactive and professional in guiding us around the permitted areas for driving, of which there are several. The road themselves are both asphalt and concrete at intervals, so you can learn on a variety of terrains. Went from complete beginner to a position where I could start professional driving lessons on the sixth or seventh lesson, even after after a few hours driving at the Aerodrome. Overall a very cost-effective and efficient experience - one which I will definitely be returning to.”

I booked an hour long session for my son Harry’s 12th birthday as he loves anything to do with cars and driving and he thought it was amazing.
His lesson was with Mick who was so friendly and experienced and made Harry feel incredibly at ease even though sometimes he can be a little shy with people he doesn’t know.
Prior to the lesson I spoke to Mark who was so helpful and managed to sort out a session on Harry’s actual birthday and even brought him a little pressie to say happy birthday :)

I had thought about going with other companies but the young person often gets limited driving time whereas Harry was able to experience a whole hour of driving on the roads, between cones, reversing, parking etc with Driving Ambition which totally made his birthday.

I honestly can’t rate this exerience high enough and would encourage anyone to book a session.

“Took two teenage sons for some driving practice on a day pass. One has a few lessons under his belt the other has never been behind the wheel before. This was the perfect place. Quiet and enough space for a novice to get to grips with the basics of clutch, brake and gears. Some of the road surface is slightly cratered, but not problematic at learner speeds. There is also a café but we didn’t go in, too busy driving. Highly recommended if you want to practice driving skills without the stress of other road users. Also a lovely bonding day with my boys.

Mark gave great advice throughout, in particular he filled the gap in changes to rules and thinking in the 30 odd years since we learned. From a parents perspective Mark is an excellent communicator and always turns up when he says he is going to. We will return to him for our daughters lessons in 2020.”

Every year since our eldest was 13 we have purchased a Driving Permit (for a maximum of 3 months a year) which has given us the freedom to put our children in the driving seat!
Our eldest passed his test 1st time in a different county, having taken only 2 teacher based driving lessons! Our middle child will be 17 shortly, he learnt to drive in our Galaxy! I have just purchased a one months Driving Permit in order he can dust off any cobwebs. We have saved a fortune doing it this way and we would recommend this to anyone and everyone!”

“Big thank you to Mark. Both of our sons have now passed their driving tests 1st time within 3 months of their 17th Birthdays. As parents we decided to take them on their 13th Birthdays to Turweston Aerodrome to learn how to drive. We did this every year for 3 months up until their 17th birthdays. Both boys on their 17th birthdays had a driving lesson and both were told once you have passed your theory put in for your practical! The confidence, understanding and ability to drive at such a young age, due to the facilities available at Turweston, gave our sons the freedom to be driving on the roads today! It’s a fantastic way to learn how to drive and our sons are proof it works!”

Caelan was absolutely on top of the world when he finished and your patience gave him the confidence back that he’d lost. Caelan has a huge amount of perseverance but his confidence is easily knocked so thank you for helping him feel that he was able to drive. “Tim and I are moving to London in December and what Tim will miss most is his lessons with Mark and the experience of driving at Turweston Aerodrome with Driving Ambition. As you know, Tim has learning difficulties and physical disabilities but has a bright personality. The lessons with Mark have been overall enjoyable and fun for Tim but Tim has also benefitted so much.He has better concentration and I really credit Mark with this as he kept Tim concentrating for the whole hour and introduced new procedures at the right intervals.
